Sabarimala pilgrimage season begins tomorrow

The two-month mandala-makaravialakku pilgrim season will begin on Saturday, which is the first day of Malayalam month Vrishchikom.

Putting in place all necessary infrastructure facilities in and around Sabarimala and Pamba, the Travancore Devaswom Board is giving final touches to ensure a smooth conduct of the pilgrim season.

Work on the parking lot at the base camp in Nilackal has been completed. The 24-acre parking lot can house a minimum 10,000 vehicles at a time. Special arrangements have been made to connect this parking lot with Pamba through KSRTC chain service.

The KSRTC will run 230 special services to Sabarimala and would increase the frequency if required. The health department has deputed doctors, nurses and paramedical staff at 11 health centres around Sabarimala and Pamba. Ambulance services have also been made available.

The TDB has installed 27 e-toilets, five of them exclusively for women, along the Marakkoottom-Sannidhanam Chandranandan Road at a cost of Rs.40 lakh. With the construction of a new water tank of 15lakh-litre capacity, the total water storage capacity at the Nilackal base camp has gone up to one crore litres. The work had cost Rs 50 lakh. Three new bore wells have been constructed at Nilackal.

In August this year, the government had sanctioned around Rs 150 crore to upgrade roads leading to Pamba. The underpass at Marakkoottam and extension of the flyover from Malikappuram to the Annadanam hall are being completed.

Arrangements have been made to produce a buffer stock of 25 lakh small cans of aravana by Friday at the modern Aravana plant.
